The 7 Wonders of My World

Every day, I wake up and I'm amazed by man and what we have accomplished in the history of this world. There's the architecture we have the intellect to imagine and then actually build, the machines that take us from one place to another, safely and sometimes while some of us sit in economy, slightly intoxicated, and then there's, not to mention, the technology that we have at our very fingertips. With just a few taps on a keyboard we have access to any information that has ever been public and sometimes not so public. Anything you want to know, research, plan, order, we have designed a way to do it and do it fast. This morning I got up early, like always, too anxious to get on with another day, too much to do and plan. I have no time to waste. Not anymore. For our generation this has been the way of life and lately I've been as much a leader of this kind of mentality as ever.
First thing this morning, I sat down in front of my computer with an obscenely large cup of Joe beside me, just staring at the colorful Google logo and the empty box below it wondering what in the world do I want to type in this stupid little box? Where do I start? Then it hit me. What would I be doing right now if I could? I would be traveling, to the Seven Wonders of the World to be exact. Take that Google and your stupid little box!
As the saying goes: "ask and you shall receive." Well, I sure did. According to 7Wonders.org there are at lease a dozen different wonders you could experience. There are the wonders of the modern world, the natural world, the ancient world, the underwater world, civil engineering, man-made, etc. You get the picture. However, after a global contest they had on the internet in 2007, the site announced the election's results that proclaim that the New Seven Wonders of the World are as follows: Chichén Itzá, Mexico; Christ The Redeemer, Brazil; The Great Wall of China, China; Machu Picchu, Peru; Petra, Jordan; The Roman Coliseum, Italy, The Taj Mahal, India. Now, those are all very nice places and I hope to see them all someday, but I'm on a mission to see very specific things before I kick the bucket. So, I've decided that I'm going to gather a Wonder from here and a Wonder from there and I came up with a mish mosh of the Seven Wonders of my World. Those Wonders are as follows (imagine a drum roll here): The Grand Canyon, Arizona; The Great Wall of China, China; Chichén Itzá, Mexico; The Roman Coliseum, Italy; Christ The Redeemer, Brazil; Machu Picchu, Peru and lastly, The Parthenon, Greece.
My mission to see these wonders of the world have been long established and I have in fact already visited three of the seven, the Grand Canyon, The Great Wall of China and Chichén Itzá. My hope now is to see the other four before the end of my 32nd year. However, first, I think I need to finish the last of my cup of Joe before I go any further. Then, I'm going to walk down the street to that nice little Islamic man at the corner store and buy a few lottery tickets before I start booking flights. Wish me luck folks!

  1. Hi Marcy. I was talking to Brandi yesterday about starting a blog with the 20 some years of writing I already have, and the things I'd like to write about today, and I was blown away when she said that you had started one! Then today, talking with Jason about it, he sent me your link. I have to say that I have absolutely enjoyed reading your writing. You are very talented, and I find myself not wanting to "put you down". I look forward to your future postings. Please dont stop. Adventures for some are sought thru the experienced words of others. And I know, after reading your blogs from May, that I will get alot of adventures from you! Good luck darlin, and Thank you! Juanita Kidder, Brandi's mom (ps, since this is my very first blog comment ever, I'm not sure what to choose in the box below that says "Comment as:" HELP!)I'll try Google ;o)
